Race Play and Being a Black Submissive

What is BDSM?

The simple definition, as found through Wikipedia, is a variety of erotic practices involving Dominance and submission, role-playing, restraint, and other interpersonal dynamics 1

There under this umbrella terminology includes relationships. D/s (Dominant/submissive), M/s (Master/slave), and Tops/bottoms.

In this post, the discussion will focus on being a submissive or slave in the lifestyle while also living as a black man or woman.

abrandnewhumpeightCulturally, the idea of anyone of African American descent being seen as anything less than equal is grounds for outrage. And of course there should be. After decades of breaking free, the chains of oppression, it’s no wonder the black community strives to keep their heads above racial waters. So, what happens when a member of the minority craves the idea of being in a position of submission?

The term “shame” and “Uncle Tom” has been thrown around, but that is only because of a lack of understanding of what the community and the relationships within the lifestyle entail.

While the number of blacks involved in the community is possibly small, that does not mean they aren’t there. In fact, there have been talks on the subject matter of “race play” and other aspects in accordance with a black submissive/slave with a white Master/Mistress.

In fact, the most outspoken in regard to such tactics is from the black community themselves, which is why, like in so many other issues that minorities face (homosexuality, religion, politics), they keep their sexual preferences in the closet.

This secrecy leads to a feeling that maybe there is something wrong with them, permeated more by hearing friends discuss racial tensions that cloud the world already.

I personally find this quote by Vi Johnson, an African American known well in the BDSM community right on target. “When you’re being sexually stimulated, you’re not thinking that what’s stimulating you is a racist image. You’re just getting turned on.” 2

InterracialLove40As with all that is what living the lifestyle means, the respect and honor in being a submissive/slave is one of high standings. Taking the race out of it is not difficult because it’s primarily about love, communication, and trust.

There should never be shame because a person of black descent chooses to be a submissive/slave. In the end, this is all about finding happiness and having fun. With race play and other forms of play. How long it will take before eyes and minds can be opened? That depends on the world’s point of view and understandings. Until then, the closet will most likely stay tightly shut for anyone with brown skin, who enjoys being owned by another.
