Kinky Vegan Product Reviews: X/Y Hogtie, Collar and Flogger

First off, I will say that I have never previously owned a leather-alternative/vegan product before. It’s not that I don’t WANT to, but most vegan products are outrageously expensive and are usually made of a material that is less than comfortable. But, since ASI has had several inquiries about vegan gear we decided to try our hand at a product review for Kinky Vegan.

About the Company
Kinky Vegan is a company out of Germany that sells their handmade leather-alternative products through Etsy. You can read more about how they got started and why they are even making vegan BDSM gear on their store’s “About” page.

Product Info:
KV uses a material called Lorica, which has a similar feel to microfiber, but with the look of leather. They told me I can put the items in with my laundry (which I mentioned in the review), but I did a little research on Lorica care and most mention cleaning instructions just like that of suede or microfiber, which we have more about here.

Prices
Y Hogtie = $11.11
X Hogtie = $12.50
Lockable Collar = $34.72
Flogger = $18.06

Product Reviews
X & Y Hogties:

Kinky Vegan actually sent me several products to do reviews on, which we loved! I’ve never owned a hogtie harness before, but now we had two to try out: the X and Y hogties. The quality was wonderful. Each hook “extension” was about 3 inches long, making the hogties just over 6 inches from end to end. I saw no abnormalities in the metal snap hooks, which were easy to snap on and release (which is an important safety factor for me). The lorica straps with rivets that held each hook onto the middle o-ring were completely solid. So, I had no complaints with the hogties.

Flogger:

The flogger was made by threading long straps of lorica over a metal o-ring and through a metal pipe. I had some issues with the straps moving around and making the straps uneven, but I was able to do some pulling to adjust them. The flogger is 14.5 inches long and the feeling is a good balance between “thuddy” and “stingy”. On my pain threshold, I’d give this flogger about a 5, which makes this a great beginner’s flogger and at less than $15 you really can’t beat it!

Locking Collar with Triangle and O-Ring:

This collar quickly became a favorite item. I was honestly not expecting something that was simple, functional, appealing AND comfortable, but Kinky Vegan hit all those points with this wonderful piece. The collar is adjustable from about 12 inches to 16.5 inches around and is 1.6 inches wide. It’s large enough to certainly make a statement, but it’s not too bulky or heavy.

As I mentioned earlier, one of my main concerns with leather-alternatives is that the materials are far from comfortable, but this collar is soft like suede on the interior, making it easy to wear for extended periods. I also liked the way the buckle was crafted with a little o-ring where the lock slides through to keep the collar adjusted perfectly. The front triangle and o-ring are quite hefty, but I think it balances out the collar nicely. The o-ring is pretty thick and, of course, is great for attaching a leash, cuffs or even a spreader bar!

Overview
Overall, I was extremely pleased with the quality of Kinky Vegan’s products. The stitching on all the lorica was well done and sturdy and the metal wasn’t the cheap grade metals you’d see on other products. Their prices are fair and shipping is fast (even from Germany to the US I received my items in just over a week). Martin was a pleasure to communicate with throughout this entire process and I’m so glad he decided to sponsor our Birthday Celebration by sending us these items and allowing us to give away the flogger.

I still have one additional product that I am expecting from Kinky Vegan, so keep an eye out for another review from them soon!  In the meant time, check out their links below!
